Thousands of people came running to Sacramento, California with the California Gold Rush. This beautiful and historic city is located on the Sacramento and American Rivers and therefore has the nickname River City. It's fun to explore the history in evidence here and a treat for the whole family.
You'll need to allow some time for investigating Sacramento. There's so much to do and see that you won't be able to take it all in otherwise. Tour Old Sacramento where you'll really get a taste of the Old West with the slat wooden sidewalks, cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages. Fascinating museums and shops will have you walking a lot, so bring comfortable shoes. When you need to sit, go to a Kings game at ARCO Arena. Don't forget Sutter's Fort.
You won't have a lack of places to stay with lodging options like motels, hotels, vacation rentals, and naturally you can find plenty of campgrounds and RV parks in the surrounding areas.
To get to Sacramento from Mammoth, take CA-203 and then north on US-395. Go left on CA-89 then left on US-50 right to Sacramento. It's a beautiful drive and worth the time to catch this incredible city.
