In August in Reno, there's a major event that attracts hundreds -- Hot August Nights. This is a classic car rally held here every year. And if you get a chance, attend the famous Street Vibrations. A huge motorcycle fan gathering, the streets vibrate with the hundreds upon hundreds of motorcycles cruising the streets. Cinco de Mayo celebrations are full of fun in Reno. Of course, you can also have fun outdoors by fishing, hiking, and rafting.
There are numerous options on lodging. You have, of course, the standard motels and hotels, but you can also find fancy resort hotels and casinos, spa resorts and more. If roughing it, there is a wide choice of campgrounds and RV parks.
To get to Reno from Mammoth, get on CA-203, take the ramp onto US-395 north and take exit 62 and you are there. It's about three hours of driving but well worth it.
