No need to be a seasoned athlete to enjoy this sport. To get started, you’ll need a minimal amount of gear, some basic physical fitness, and some patience. Both newbie's and veteran's alike will find ample cross country skiing opportunities in Mammoth Lakes.
Where to go to Cross Country Skiing
Tamarack Lodge
Tamarack offers 19 miles of groomed tracks that wind around Twin Lakes and the Mammoth Lakes Basin. A full day adult pass costs $26, a youth pass costs $20, and a child pass costs $14. Rentals and lessons are available. Hours are 8:30am to 5pm. During full moons, come to experience a nighttime tour.
Rock Creek Lodge
This facility offers 9 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails. Located at the edge of the John Muir Wilderness. Rentals and lessons are available.
Mammoth Lakes Nordic Trail System
This trail system encompasses nine miles of groomed cross country skiing trails. They are accessible near the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center. and are available to the public free of charge.
Inyo National Forest
The forest maintains hundreds of miles of trails. All of the paths are marked by blue diamonds, so they are fairly easy to follow. Popular destinations include the Inyo Craters, Obsidian Dome, and Hot Creek.
