Sometimes vacationers, especially families traveling with children, need a break from sightseeing to enjoy some simple warm weather fun. The town of Mammoth Lakes Parks and Recreation Department provides lots of places to enjoy simple summertime recreation.
The many parks of Mammoth Lakes are green and spacious and offer a variety of amenities. For example, pretty Shady Rest Park has a soccer field and volleyball courts while popular Trails End Park boasts a brand new 40,000 square foot skateboard park, which is a big hit with teens and pre-teens. The Whitmore Recreation Area as a 6-lane, 25-meter pool for all to enjoy as well as a children's wading pool for the little ones. Most of the Mammoth Lakes parks also include playgrounds, hiking trails, and picnic areas.
The local Parks and Recreation Department also sponsors occasional family-friendly annual events including barbecues, craft fairs, and holiday festivals that all ages are sure to enjoy.
